My now husband introduced me to hunting. I would listen to his stories about how his Dad taught him to hunt. I see the joy and pride in his eyes when he talked about all those trips him and his Dad made. I finally got a hunting license and we were in the woods. The day of my first hunt was exciting. I was late afternoon he and I were in the shoot box patiently waiting. When my husband heard the noise and said there he is. My heart started pounding and at first I didn’t want to do it. But then I took the muzzle loader heart still pounding aimed and waited for him to step out front behind the tree. As soon as he took two steps I lined up the shot and pulled the trigger. I put the muzzle loader down and cried. I couldn’t believe what I had just done. We have it a few minutes and then got down out of the tree and found him about 40 yards from where I had shot him.
Too see the happiness in my husbands eyes made the whole day worth it. He was a spike. He then showed me how to gut the deer and he gave me my blood stripes for killing my first deer. We continue to hunt and this year I’m going turkey hunting. We also goose hunt and have a great time.
