So we decided to do something different with the blog for a little while. I am going to give a journal styled entry for the remainder of this years hunting season. So here we go… Friday. 10.1.20 James and I got off to a late start due to waiting on a UPS delivery. When we got to the farm we quickly unloaded the trucks and sorted our gear for the morning hunt. After a short night sleep we geared up and headed to our spots. | |
Saturday 10.2.20
I set up in my favorite spot on the farm; the blacksmith shop. The shop has an old work bench and a big window frame the looks out into a clearing that is a bit of a hot spot for deer. Unfortunately that was not the case for either my morning or evening hunt.
Sunday 10.3.20
Headed back out to the blacksmith shop for the morning. I was able to see a few Does hanging out about 100 yards away, but none of those ladies would come any closer. So for my event hunt decided to chance it up and set up a blind on what we call the Logging Road. James helped me set up the blind at a point where I could see down all three lanes of the road. But once again I came up empty. James on the other hand was able to get an older Doe. I met up with him and helped him track the deer. We loaded her up and processed her.
Monday 10.4.20
Started my day in the blacksmith in hopes that maybe the ladies would grace me with their presence. They did make an appearance, but kept their distance. James was leaving that afternoon so I was gonna be one my own for the evening. James had seen a large buck on Sunday, but was not able to get a good shot, so I moved the blind to an area near where the buck came out of the woods. Unfortunately, the buck didn't show up for his appointment with my crossbow.
Tuesday 10.5.20
This would be my last day on this trip, but it was not my week as I didn't see anything at all that morning. So I cleaned up and packed my gear and headed home.
Saturday 10.17.20
This was a trip to the farm I made on my own. I was unpacking the truck and looked out and saw a few Does in the field beside the blacksmith shop. So I knew where I was heading first thing in the morning. It was not a very successful morning for deer, but I did see some cool woodpeckers. That evening there were two bucks that came out to play. the stayed around the 80 to 100 yard range for over 15 minutes before they made their way toward my spot. I was able to get a 76 yard range and decided to take a shot. I wasn't able to make the shot, so they got to play another day.
Wednesday 10.21.20
Having the day off in the middle of the week gave me a chance to hunt when most people were at work. So I decided to do a morning hunt in the national forest. I never have much luck in the national forest, but I hoped this time would be different. It wasn’t.
Saturday 10.31.20
Halloween.
This was my last chance to hunt in the month of October, and it was another trip to the national forest. I met James, his brother Michael, his father Alvin, and Uncle Jake. We gathered at Base Camp and discussed who was going where, and we went our separate ways. I hunkered down in my blind and prepared for the deer to start strolling by. Once again nature had a different plan. As the forest started to wake up, a few Woodpeckers showed up and started hunting their breakfast. they kept knocking off dead tree branches and making lots of noise. Those were the only animals I laid eyes on.
